Bring your own device

Bring your own device

The Ponds High School BYOD program is designed to assist student learning in a flexible manner. Students are able to bring their own device, regardless of make or type, catering for varying needs and situations. To assist families in purchasing a compatible device, a specifications guide can be downloaded from this page. Additionally, students at NSW Public Schools are entitled to a free download of selected software from Microsoft and Adobe to support their learning. This software can be accessed via a link in the student portal. Information about this is also found in the specifications guide.

Where to buy?

There is no obligations to buy from any particular manufacturer or retailer. Instead, you just need to weigh up your budget and preferences. However, there are a few points to consider.

  1. Does the device meet the recommend specifications (see above)
  2. Will the device allow for the installation of the free software available to students
  3. Can work be easily copied from or loaded onto the device (USB port is a good option)
  4. What warranty options can you get?

HP has provided a purchase portal for parents and students. Most of the devices listed have a 3yr next business day warranty for hardware issues included. HP has also provided the school with a corporate login to help expedite the repair of laptops (this is a new option recently made available to us).
